Keloid Removal

Keloids are excessive growths of cartilage most commonly found on the ears or in previous skin penetrating injuries such as piercing or previous cuts to the skin. Keloids slowly grow over time, but can be removed with a simple short surgical procedure.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM KELOID REMOVAL?

Patients with persistent keloids sometimes require occasional steroid injections to prevent keloids from re-forming.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR KELOID REMOVAL

Prior to your procedure the keloid to be removed will be marked. The area will be cleansed and local anesthetic will be applied. The procedure to remove the excess cartilage takes a few short minutes the surgical site is closed with non-resorbable stitches that will be removed 7-10 days later.

AFTER YOUR TREATMENT

Over-the-counter pain medication should be sufficient to manage discomfort. Swelling and bruising should resolve after 2-3 weeks. The stitches will be removed in 7-10 days and a follow up appointment will be scheduled for 4-6 weeks to evaluate for recurrence of the keloid.
